Leaden
A year in paces. During a morning ritual of walking I collected bird nests from the thickets along Ottawa’s waterways. Casting each nest in lead (from the torn-out ironwork of Parliament Hill) is an act of preservation of the fragility of a tiny sanctuary, and an exploration of the weighted concept of home and domesticity. Each nest rests on a new branch – a shelf made from lathe taken from my own home, as I preserve, support and tend to the impossible weight of each one.
